The Open Road Yorkshire can offer you the perfect starting point for driving a sports car around a wide range of countryside from the picturesque and tranquil to the wild and rugged. Keighley, our base in West Yorkshire, is ideally placed for a day out or a weekend touring beautiful Pennine hill country.
We are also only a stone's throw away from Skipton, and the outstanding scenery of the Yorkshire Dales in North Yorkshire. Whether by accident or design we seem to have adopted a literary theme for our classic car hire operations with the Warwickshire branch based in the heart of Shakespeare Country and our Yorkshire branch in the heart of Bronte Country. Keighley is only about 5 miles from the Bronte parsonage in Howarth, 13 miles from Halifax and 22 from Harrogate.
|Majestic stately homes and gardens, historic castles, small towns with a rich heritage and picture postcard villages are all on offer within a day's drive. For details of some beautiful drives around the dales including the 'Top 10 Dales Roads' have a look at the 'Drive The Dales' website.
Visit stylish York and Harrogate, or the internationally famous Bronte Country, with its mystical landscapes which inspired the literary creativity of Charlotte, Emily and Anne Bronte. If you have more time and want to drive your classic hire car further afield there's the Lake District to the northwest, the Yorkshire Dales and the North York Moors and Yorkshire Coast to the northeast and the Peak District to the south.
Yorkshire is celebrated for its textiles and industrial heritage. The wealth of the Victorian era can still be seen in the superb architecture of local towns and cities.
Nearby country towns include Otley (birthplace of Thomas Chippendale), Ilkley (a genteel spa town), Haworth (home of the Brontes), the market towns of Skipton, Knaresborough and Marsden. 'Last of the Summer Wine' viewers will recognise Holmfirth, whose moors climb on up into the Peak District National Park.
