Personal loans you can drive away

Some individuals find that they need to borrow money to buy an item that they need but cannot afford. The items can be anything from a new fridge, to a holiday or car and even in some situations basic items such as utility payments or clothes.

The favoured way of getting the money required, for most people, is to borrow with a personal loan and then make repayments every month. If you make a mistake when agreeing to a loan then it can be one of the biggest errors you make as it will stay with you, both financially and on your credit rating, for a long time. If you choose the right deal you will find it a great relief.

See personal finance websites similar to The Motley Fool’s loans comparison site or MoneyFacts to find out the latest information on the best deal around and the deal that may suit you. If you don’t know something and you can’t find it on the site then ask someone. Online this is just a case of visiting a discussion board that most comprehensive sites provide.

Always be sure to establish how much you can in reality afford to pay back on time and work out how much you should borrow from that. Stick to this figure and then think if the loan is the right option for you.

Before committing to any one loan or lender it is a good idea to check out one of the many online loans calculators that are available; don’t worry they are easy to use and with the competition between lenders you should find one on most sites.

The calculator on the Natwest Loans page, for instance, allows prospective borrows to enter the amount they want to borrow and the timescale they would prefer to pay it back over and gives them the monthly payment and the total amount payable; say you wanted to borrow £5000 and pay it back over 4 years the calculator will inform you that your monthly payment would be £214.72 (including Loan protection) and that the total amount payable would be £10,306.56. Loan calculators do not provide exact details and so can only be used as a guide. Any estimates from loan calculators should be compared across the board.

Here’s a quick breakdown of some of the major lenders current personal loan deals (at the time of writing):

Let your lender know immediately if you get into difficulties as the effects of not taking control of any problems will be greater in the long term. Any defaults on loans will stay on your credit record and be an indicator of irresponsibility on your part as a borrower.

However you borrow just remember to research and budget.
