Huge demand for Young Drivers’ Lessons with Advanced Motorists

So many young drivers want first lessons on private roads the IAM Young Drivers' Scheme (YDS) has moved to a bigger area and has more lessons to offer.

Sky-high demand for Warwickshire IAM’s Young Drivers’ Scheme (YDS) fuels its move to a bigger private road network at Long Marston Storage, courtesy of St Modwen Properties plc.

“We rapidly out grew out of the area very kindly provided in February by the Heritage Motoring Centre. Now, thanks to St Modwen to whom we are very grateful, we have a much bigger area and private road network and will not have to turn anyone away in future,” said Keith Madderson, local IAM Advanced Motorist secretary.

The IAM YDS helps 16 year olds learn the basic skills of car control on private roads under the instruction of Approved Driving Instructors in their dual control cars during a proper driving lesson. This allows youngsters to get to grips with starting, stopping and manoeuvring without the extra worry of traffic moving around them.

Sessions are on the first Sunday of the month and can be booked with YDS Coordinator, Phil Keatley on 0784 780 2711, by e-mail on yds@stratfordiam.org.uk or on line at: www.stratfordiam.org.uk With increased space, lessons can be booked now for Sunday 2nd September and the rest of the year. Costs are £21 then £18 for each 1-hour lesson.

September also sees the next local IAM ‘Skills for Life’ Advanced Driving course in Montague Road, Warwick. For six, two-hour session including a pre-drive briefing and then on-road practical application of the brief, the entire course is still only £85 (£65 for those under 26) and has some spaces left.
