"I hired the TR6 from The Open Road for my 41st birthday weekend (having previously had their TR4A for a long weekend a few months before), and after returning with it to our base in West Oxfordshire to pack, we set off mid-afternoon to North Cornwall for a long weekend at The Falcon in Bude.
The car had been expertly prepared (as all the cars from The Open Road always are) and was running like a dream. Unfortunately we had to do some motorway miles down as far as Taunton, but the TR6 shrugged them off, easily keeping up with the modern traffic.
After rumbling through the Taunton rush hour, we came upon the long arc of relatively minor roads that I had plotted from Taunton to Holsworthy, practically devoid of motor traffic except near the few small towns, and it was here that the TR6 came into it's own. With the top folded back, the warm early evening sunshine beaming down, and miles and miles of sweeping, curving roads, up and down over rolling hills and valleys, we had a lovely couple of hours of driving.
The TR6 is immensely fun to drive, and although not particularly easy to drive quickly (if you are used to modern cars), rewards your efforts with wonderful classic handling and that great straight-six noise! And never more so than on those kind of roads, where the sound bounces back from the stone-walled fields as you whip along in your 125BHP bright yellow go-cart (The steering and handling is so direct, you always know what the vehicle is doing).
We were away for four days, covered over 500 miles (including driving in some foul weather on the Sunday) and the TR6 never missed a beat. It was even surprisingly comfortable over those distances, and the good sized boot and capacious luggage area behind the seats meant that we had room for all of our luggage, plus quite a few bottles from our trip to the Camel Valley Winery!
Tony and Elaine are very professional but exceedingly friendly in their approach, and their cars are always immaculate. Highly recommended - I am hiring their Triumph Stag for my wedding anniversary in January, for a trip down to Dorset - my third car from The Open Road, and certainly not the last."
