Customer Tales of their experiences on The Open Road
![]() |
Sometimes our customers write up their exploits, either for their own diaries, or for publication in club or classic car magazines. Where they have done so and given us permission to reproduce their story we have reproduced them in this section.
But first, many people ask us where we got the inspiration from, for our company name.
It comes from Chapter Two of Kenneth Grahame's classic book "The Wind in the Willows". This chapter describes Mr Toad's conversion from boating to travelling by road. Admittedly his initial adventures were in a horse drawn Gypsy caravan before he purchased his first motor car.
Nevertheless his philosophy still represents our view of life "On The Open Road".
The following "Tales" about their time "On The Open Road" have all been written by our customers.
- Love On The Open Road - a story from our first US customer who took our Frogeye Sprite out for a drive and asked a knight in armour at Warwick Castle to propose, on his behalf, to his fiancée. We no longer have the Frogeye Sprite for hire as we sold it during 2000. While everyone thought it was a really cute car, very few customers actually wanted to drive anything quite so small. So if you want to re-create this romantic adventure you will have to try a different car.
-
MGB In Your Hand Luggage - story of two brothers from South Carolina taking our MGB Roadster and Frogeye Sprite for a tour.
- The AXA Classic 1999 - a write up of one of our customers taking our Triumph TR4A out on the AXA sponsored MSA Classic Run.
- My Birthday Present - Stuart Irving writes up his four day trip in our MGB Roadster in July 2005 and his conversion from a love of motorcycles to a love of classic sports cars.
- 41st Birthday Present - Sean Keogh writes up his birthday trip down to Cornwall in June 2005, in our Triumph TR6.
- "The wrong side of the road tour" 2004 - in February 2004 the Sterkman family (father and sons) came over from Holland and took our Triumph Stag and TR6 on a four day tour. They wrote this up as a family trip subtitled: "Een Mannentocht in mannenweer met mannenwagens". This translates roughly as "A masculine trip, in masculine clothing with masculine cars".
- "I never grew up" in June 2006 Peter Kamstra from the Netherlands took our Triumph TR4A out for a four day trip around the Cotswolds to celebrate his wife's 50th birthday.

Experiencing time travel! Customer Paul Simpson wrote up his trips in our Triumph TR4A and Stag and posted it on Trip Advisor.
