  Happy 50th Birthday MGB

In 2012 celebrate the 50th birthday of the most successful British sports car of all time, the MGB. The MGB was launched at the Earls Court Motor Show on 20th September 1962 and remained in production for 19 years until 1981.

Throughout 2012 the main MG car clubs will be arranging a whole series of MGB related events.  If you want to attend one, and don't have your own MGB then treat yourself to our beautiful MGB Roadster in classic tartan red.

Choose from our fleet of vintage classic, sports cars: 1963 Austin Healey 3000 MkIIa, 1970 Jaguar E-type Roadster (convertible), 1961 Jaguar Mark II saloon, 1965 Ford Mustang GT Fastback, 1969 MG MGB Roadster, 1974 Triumph Stag and a 1973 Triumph TR6.

In 2010 we added a slightly more modern sports car to our fleet - a Caterham Super 7. A modern sports car with reliable technology but based on Colin Chapman's famous Lotus 7.  Great fun but very small and very Spartan.

Treat yourself to an unforgettable day out or a weekend break in the beautiful Heart of England, driving around Shakespeare Country and The Cotswolds.  Tour this unique part of the country with its host of scenic and historic attractions, including stately homes, the castles of Kenilworth and Warwick and the wonderful stone villages of The Cotswolds - an area of outstanding natural beauty.

When we started the company in 1997 our plan was to hire out just British Cars but in April 2006 we added our first non British classic to our hire fleet.  As always driven by customer demand, and following the launch of the new Ford Mustang which looked back to its roots - we added the most iconic American sports car of all time - a Ford Mustang Fastback.

We are ideally situated to rent a classic car, right in the Heart of England  in South Warwickshire, minutes from Historic Warwick and Stratford upon Avon.  We are just 10 miles from that mecca for classic car enthusiasts, The Heritage Motor Centre at Gaydon and only 15 miles from the Coventry Transport Museum.

We are less than a mile from Junction 15 of the M40, only 30 minutes from Birmingham Airport and about 1½ hours from the West of London by road or rail. Trains run from London Euston to Leamington Spa and from London Marylebone Station to Warwick Parkway Station throughout the day. We can collect from Warwick, Warwick Parkway, Leamington Spa or Stratford-upon-Avon stations in either our Triumph Stag or Jaguar Mark 2, at no charge.

Depending on workload, we may be able to deliver our classic cars to hotels in the Leamington Spa, Warwick or Stratford areas at no cost. We may be able to deliver further afield, subject to availability, but we make a charge of £2 per mile. Long distance deliveries can work out expensive so we normally recommend that you use your money to treat yourself to a weekend away in one of the local hotels or B&Bs, rather than wasting it on delivery.

We provide personalised classic car hire gift vouchers as well as a number of gifts or books to accompany the vouchers. Because we produce the gift vouchers individually we can make them out to say whatever our customers want.  Not only do we include the recipient's name and appropriate date but you can choose the wording.   So whether you want a 'Classic Jaguar Weekend', 'Classic Car Touring Holiday', or just to say 'Happy Christmas Dad', come up with your own wording and contact us. All vouchers are valid for 12 months from the date printed on them (not the date we supply the gift voucher).  You can even include a couple of tickets for the Heritage Motor Centre at Gaydon to complete the trip.

This is one of the Haynes Great Cars series - written by Nigel Thorley and published in 2001 to co-incide with the 40th anniversary of the launch of the E-Type.

If you think an envelope containing a voucher won't make much of a present, then why not give him/her a book on their favourite classic car, with the gift voucher inside as a bookmark.

You will shortly be able to order our whole range of books and gifts online.  Bookmark this page and come back to see what The Open Road has to offer to help you fulfill that awkward birthday, anniversary or father's day present.
